Every year for the past 7 or 8 years, I've been honored to emcee a fundraiser for the Avon VFW. They throw a benefit party and proceeds go to various veteran organizations. This year, they donated proceeds to an organization that has been around for almost 20 years but was new to many of us, TAPS. That stands for Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. They help the loved ones of those who served and died. They offer immediate and long term emotional help, hope and healing to all those grieving the death of a loved one in military service to America, regardless of the relationship of the deceased or the circumstances of the death. They are a pretty amazing group of folks with the tough task of helping those who are hurting after the death of a loved one. They have a 24 hour survivor helpline, 800-959-TAPS (8277). I hope you never need them, but they are standing by ready to help if you ever do. Find out more about TAPS, and how to donate, by clicking here. -Billy
