Hollywood Reporter Banned From Cannes After Woody Allen Joke

May 12, 2016
This week Ronan Farrow, estranged son of Woody Allen, wrote an essay for The Hollywood Reporter going after the media’s light treatment of sexual abuse allegations made against Woody Allen by his daughter Dylan.

In the piece Ronan says, "Initially, I begged my sister not to go public. I'm ashamed of that, too. With sexual assault, anything's easier than facing it in full, saying all of it, facing all of the consequences."

He also cites a legal custody document which found Woody Allen's behavior "grossly inappropriate" and stressed that "measures must be taken to protect [Dylan]."

Reminiscent of comedian Hannibal Burress bringing up a joke about Bill Cosby's sexual misconduct, comedian Laurent Lafitte made a shocking rape joke during the Cannes opening ceremonies by addressing Allen.

Lafitte said, "You've shot so many of your films here in Europe and yet in the U.S. you haven't even been convicted of rape."

Since the Hollywood Reporter ran the condemning article, they were immediately banned from the Cannes Film Festival lunch where Woody Allen was being honored. Later, Allen said he wasn't offended by the joke.

Look at his face tho...
